Each year our detachment sets up a booth at the McKinney Oktoberfest in downtown McKinney, Tx. We carry and assortment of military/veteran hats, T-shirts, challenge coins and other items that we sell in order to raise funds to support Marines, FMF Corpsmen and their families plus other programs we support. As more information becomes available about this year's Oktoberfest we will post it. We hope you stop by our booth.
Marine Corps Birthday Ball
Each year our detachment hosts a Marine Corps Birthday Ball. This unique event is an evening full of military ceremony, history, and tradition that few get to experience. This is an event that is typically attended by Marines, their guests, and high ranking military officers and other dignitaries. The Marine Corps League in Collin County has opened this event to the local community, to share this unique tradition with the community, in order to promote the Marine Corps League, and our mission. The Marine Corps Birthday Ball also serves as the detachment's largest fund raising event of the year, through ticket sales and sponsorships.
Our Ball committee has over 30 years of experience in organizing Marine Corps Birthday Balls and has created a Marine Corps Birthday Ball that has been praised within the veteran community and the civilian community alike. With many career Marines saying it is the best Ball they have ever attended.
The Ball committee strives to out do itself each year, to include seeking prestigious and unforgettable Guests of Honor/Speakers. Speakers at our Marine Corps Birthday Ball have included CEO of 22Kill and actor Jacob Schick; Iwo Jima Marine and one of only 4 remaining Medal of Honor recipients from WWII; Hershel "Woody" Williams, and one of the last remaining members of the legendary Navajo Code Talkers, Peter MacDonald.
This year's 245th Marine Corps Birthday Ball will be held on November 7th, 2020. It will be at the Hilton Dallas/Plano at Granite Park in Plano, TX. We are currently seeking sponsors. More details including ticket information will be coming in the next few months. We generally open ticket sales on July 4th and have sold out the last couple of years.
Varies Volunteer Opportunities
A major part of our mission is to serve Marines, FMF Corpsmen and their families. At times this means physically assisting in improvements to veterans property, cleaning out their home, helping them move, providing funeral details and other various tasks. These are generally short notice action events. We try to post these events to out calendar but often the fast way to get the word out is by email and posts on our Facebook page: Marine Corps League Collin County.
