The Marine Corps League, LCpl Jacob D. Hayes Detachment #1426 was chartered on May 18, 2015 in Plano, Texas, and is a nonprofit organization registered with the State of Texas and the federal government as a 501(c)(4) veteran’s organization with a special group exemption letter allowing for tax deductible donations.

HANSE MASON HAMILTON JR. joined the Marine Corps in 1943 and deployed to the Pacific. Hanse was a radio operator assigned to 5th Joint Assault Signal Company (JASCO). PFC Hamilton was attached to the 28th Marine Regiment as a part of the first wave to assault Iwo Jima. The 28th Marines’ job was to isolate Mount Suribachi from the rest of the island. On his 6th day on Iwo Jima PFC Hamilton was injured in a rocket barrage that struck around his position, on the side of the mountain. He was then evacuated due to his injuries. Hanse was discharged from the Marine Corps in 1945 and came home to Texas. After returning home Hanse attended SMU and worked for the IRS. Hanse was a member of the Marine Corps League until his passing in February 2019.

In honor of Hanse Mason Hamilton Jr’s service to his country and his pursuit of higher education, the Marine Corps League, LCpl Jacob D. Hayes Detachment is proud to be offering a $1500 scholarship for the 2022-2023 school year. This scholarship is for a deserving high school senior, participating in one of the MCJROTC

programs in Collin County, who meet the eligibility requirements. The scholarships funds are allocated by the detachment based upon proceeds from fund-raising activities throughout the year. Our scholarship committee will consider academic merit, service, and need.


For the 2022 – 2023 school year, the Marine Corps League, LCpl Jacob D. Hayes Detachment will be awarding one $1500, Pfc Hanse Mason Hamilton Jr. Scholarship to one eligible MCJORTC senior cadet from either Allen or McKinney High School MCJROTC programs.  Eligibility for this scholarship is outlined below.  Applications are welcomed for students planning to attend a four-year college or University, community college, or vocational program. 

          -Open to high seniors currently enrolled in the Allen High School MCJROTC or McKinney MCJROTC programs.  These             applicants need not have a family member who served as a Marine or FMF Corpsmen. 

          -The above students must currently have a Cumulative (Unweighted) GPA of at least 3.0  (on a 4.0 scale).


             *Students in a MCJROTC program who are the children, step children, adopted children, grandchildren and great grandchildren of Marines,                 FMF Corpsmen or Navy Chaplains (who served with Marines) may also apply for one of our two other scholarships.  Applicants will only                     be considered for one of the scholarships offered by the Marine Corps League, LCpl Jacob D. Hayes Detachment.



          -Students who have a family member on the scholarship selection committee.

          -Students who have a family member serving as a Marine Corps League, LCpl Jacob D. Hayes Detachment Officer.

          -Immediate family members of major contributors to the Marine Corps League, LCpl Jacob D. Hayes Detachment               or its scholarship program.

          -Students who do not currently have a Cumulative (Unweighted) GPA of at least 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) are not eligible.
