The Marine Corps League, LCpl Jacob D. Hayes Detachment #1426 was chartered on May 18, 2015 in Plano, Texas, and is a nonprofit organization registered with the State of Texas and the federal government as a 501(c)(4) veteran’s organization with a special group exemption letter allowing for tax deductible donations.

Johnny Robertson grew up on a farm in Levelland, Texas. He entered the Marine Corps on June 2. 1967 and served as a Supervisor of Computer Operations. He had orders to Vietnam but was re-assigned to 12 months of duty in Okinawa. Sergeant Johnny Robertson was honorable discharged from the Marine Corps on July 20, 1970. Shortly after departing the Marine Corps Johnny moved to McKinney, Texas. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in 1980 and, went on to work for TXU, serve as a Collin County Reserve Deputy Sheriff, and volunteer with his church and the Marine Corps League, until his passing on August, 11, 2019.

In honor of Johnny Robertson’s service to his country and his desire to further his education, the LCpl Jacob D. Hayes Detachment is proud to offer scholarships to deserving students from Collin County who meet the eligibility requirements.  The scholarships funds are allocated by the detachment based upon proceeds from fund-raising activities throughout the year.  Our scholarship committee will consider academic merit, service, and need.



For the 2022 – 2023 school year, the Marine Corps League, LCpl Jacob D. Hayes Detachment will be awarding one $1500 Sgt Johnny Robertson Scholarship for the criteria outlined below.   Applications are welcomed for students planning to attend a four-year college or University, community college, or vocational program. 

           -Open to currently serving Marines, FMF Corpsmen or Navy Chaplains (serving with Marine units), Honorable

             Discharged Marines, FMF Corpsmen, or Navy Chaplains (who served with Marine units)

           -Open to immediate family members (spouses, children, step children, adopted children, grandchildren and great

             grandchildren) of Marines, FMF Corpsmen, or Navy Chaplains who are currently serving or were Honorably


           -Open to Associate Members of the Marine Corps League, LCpl Jacob D Hayes Detachment who have been

             members for at least one year and are in good standing; their children, step children, adopted children, 

             grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

           -The above students must currently have a Cumulative (Unweighted) GPA of at least 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale). If you are

            former active duty, GPA is not required. The detachment will award $750 for the first semester, and upon

            maintaining a 2.5 GPA for the first semester, will then transit the remainder of funds for the second semester.

           -All applicants must reside in Collin County.



          -Students who have a family member on the scholarship selection committee.

          -Students who have a family member serving as a Marine Corps League, LCpl Jacob D. Hayes Detachment Officer.

          -Immediate family members of major contributors to the Marine Corps League, LCpl Jacob D. Hayes Detachment

           or its scholarship program.

          -Students who do not currently have a cumulative (Unweighted) GPA of at least 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale) are not eligible.

           (Exception: former Active duty without a GPA)

          -Students who do not reside in Collin County at the time of applying
